De Kock, KL Rahul help Lucknow thump Chennai
A scintillating opening stand of 134 laid the platform for the Lucknow Super Giants to make light work of chasing down Chennai Super Kings’ total of 176-6 to win by a whopping eight-wickets in their IPL match at the Bharat Ratna Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Friday.
Quinton de Kock (54 from 43 balls) and captain KL Rahul (82 from 53) all but sealed victory in riveting fashion with 14 fours and four sixes between them against an attack with few answers to the onslaught.
De Kock was caught by ‘keeper MS Dhoni attempting to upper cut left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman and Rahul was brilliantly caught, one handed, by Ravindra Jadeja at backward point off Sri Lankan slinger Matheesha Pathirana, but Nicholas Pooran (23* from 12 balls) and Marcus Stoinis (8*) completed the job with a comfortable six balls to spare.

Earlier Jadeja’s unbeaten 57 held the CSK innings together as they struggled to a total of 176-6 after being asked to bat first.
Jadeja finished unbeaten on 57 from 40 balls but there was little else of substance for the men in yellow other than opener Ajinkya Rahane’s resilient 36 from 24 balls (5x4, 1x6) – he was bowled by Krunal Pandya (3-0-16-2) whose left-arm spin was as canny and frugal as ever.
England allrounder Moeen Ali was held back until the 13th over appearing at No 7 with the score on a precarious 90-5 and added 51 with Jadeja striking three sixes in a brisk 30 from 20 deliveries before holing out against legspinner Ravi Bishnoi (1-44).
Former captain Dhoni emerged at No 8 to the usual rapturous reception and did not disappoint with a scintillating 24 not out from a mere eight balls with a pair of fours and sixes.
The home side now join a logjam of four teams on eight points in second place, including CSK, four points behind leaders Rajasthan Royals.
